Thing #23

Nothing I learned was very earth shattering to me. I did find some new websites to check out through the Web 2.0 Awards. WorldCat and NetLibrary was new to me. Being in my early 20s, I've done most of the other parts of the challenge before.

Thing #22

I think ListenNJ will be better once they are compatible with zune and ipod. I only listen to my ipod in the car nowadays. I really don't like getting read books, I'm more of a read it myself girl. ListenNJ is not something I will use for myself until maybe when I'm old. It was very simple and its really great for people who like audio books!

Easy to do podcasts.... just not that exciting.

Thing #20

Just a few music videos!! I saw Toby Keith in February and I'm going to see Rhett Akins right after staff development day in AC!!

Don't play them all at once!

Thing #19

For real estate Zillow.com was a very good site to use. I have actually been looking into real esate a lot and I like how it tells you the estimated value of the house.

And also Facebook because I have one and it's fun to use!

Thing #18

Google Docs is a really handy program. I can see its purpose for when a specific document that needs updating like the status change for new books. If we have it on one computer (as we do currently) that terminal needs to be available when a person needs to update it. If it were on multiple computers, all the copies would not be updated simultaneously like it would if we used Google Docs.

Thing #17

Pbwiki is a very good idea on how to control who gets to edit the information. It is definitely good for businesses and groups. It was very simple to use!

Thing #16

Wikipedia has always been a great place to look certain things up on. There have been times when I've needed help on trivia and I've found the answer on Wikipedia. Also a little spin off called Wookiepedia for Star Wars fans.

That being said, I would never actually use it as a reference or a site for research. Since anyone can edit and add information, there is a higher chance the information could be false on a site like this.

The Library's wiki looked really great though!

Thing #15

Well I think its about time the library started to get into 2.0. There have been a lot of changes in the last decade with technology and while some people are intimidated by it, the younger generation is already used to it. If you ask 10 teenagers about blogs I'm sure every single one will have at least one or two blogs. If you ask the same question to a group in their 40s or 50s, I bet at least two of those people have never heard of blogs or has no idea what a blog is.
The older generations still use the library to do research, but for the most part the younger crowd primarily use the Internet from home.
In the blog, 'Away from the icebergs' one of the problems Rick Anderson outlines is that the staff to patron ratio is problematic in being able to teach the public about 2.0. As it is there is not enough computer classes in our library system. Most classes fill up in 2 hours at the begining of registering for them. In most branches there is a limit of 4 people to a class when it's once or twice a month as it is!

Thing #14

Technorati was a good place to find a blogger that writes on subjects that interest you. I thought it was interesting, but in some cases I felt like I was reading their diary! Some of the links I chose did not load. Not sure if that was the computer or the website. From what would load it was a nice index, however I still like search engines like google more.

Thing #13

I didn't find del.icio.us that amazing. I do like the idea of being able to access favorite/bookmarked websites at any computer. I like to just search for things myself, plus i usually just remember the websites address if i go to it often enough. Tagging is very helpful on there which also worked well on flickr. Facebook also has tagging so when a person uploads a picture or note, they can tag their friends to it so their profile is connected to the image or noteI

#12 WorldCat

WorldCat was very interesting! I looked up quite a few books that were popular and of course OCL had those. I also looked up a really old book my sister had tried to find a few years back and ended up buying it off eBay. According to WorldCat Atlantic County Library has a copy! When filling out an ILL form I usually use Amazon, but I'd be willing to try WebCat out next time!

#12 NetLibrary

I have no great use for NetLibrary currently, but I do think it's something I might need in the future. I think its great everyone has had a chance to use it because now they have a firsthand experience that would be very helpful when showing a customer. NetLibrary is something I would tell friends who are in college about because I think it would really be helpful for someone with a Buisness major.

Thing #11 Library Thing

I really enjoyed using library thing. It is extremely easy to use. One book only 2 other people had in their library! Whereas 'Atonement' has over 7 thousand!! It reminded me a little of Amazon with comments acting as reviews. I read through the comments left on 'Gone With the Wind' and it made me want to read it all over again!

Thing #10

Check this link!
Building the Real Iron Man
With the marvel comic movie coming out popular science did an article about the suit and using it for real life. This would be a real advantage for us to provide to our military. Expensive as it might be, with these suits we would need less soldiers and most likely loose less. The only negative I see is if enemies of the US develop the same technology.

Thing #9

I liked using the bloglines search the best when finding feeds. It was the simplest and quickest way for me to find feeds. Syndic8 was not visually appealing to me. There are so many feeds to look through that I'll need time to read them all before I choose a favorite. I always have been a fan of USATODAY.com Offbeat - Top Stories!

Thing #8

RSS feeds are very useful for people who like to read articles from many different sources. Instead of going to many different websites you can find it all at one! This technology is very good to know about because it the next generation newspaper. The Library can take advantage of this by making themselves available to feeds. This will increase the libraries reach to the next generation, which trend is very technological.

Thing #2 (Seven and One Half Habits)

The Habit that is easiest for me was #6 Use Technology to your Advantage. Technology is something I grasp unto easily. Also #4 Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner because I'm very confident.
The Habit that is hardest is #1 Begin with the end in mind. This one is hard because I never know where I want to end up!
