Thing #15

Well I think its about time the library started to get into 2.0. There have been a lot of changes in the last decade with technology and while some people are intimidated by it, the younger generation is already used to it. If you ask 10 teenagers about blogs I'm sure every single one will have at least one or two blogs. If you ask the same question to a group in their 40s or 50s, I bet at least two of those people have never heard of blogs or has no idea what a blog is.
The older generations still use the library to do research, but for the most part the younger crowd primarily use the Internet from home.
In the blog, 'Away from the icebergs' one of the problems Rick Anderson outlines is that the staff to patron ratio is problematic in being able to teach the public about 2.0. As it is there is not enough computer classes in our library system. Most classes fill up in 2 hours at the begining of registering for them. In most branches there is a limit of 4 people to a class when it's once or twice a month as it is!
